COLD WEATHER

FEMA's video briefly explains what we need to know & do

Here are Trusted local sources:
  • Multnomah County’s Care for When It’s Cold webpage has both general and current information.
  • For Winter Weather Safety Information go to Public Alerts.  Use the pull-down below their logo to choose from 26 different languages.  Please share this with your ESL friends and neighbors.
  • During severe winter weather events, call 211 if someone needs severe weather shelter information or transportation to a warming shelter.
  • If you need weatherization information or assistance Click here or call 211.
  • Checkout PG&E’s Medical Baseline Program if you or yours have a medical condition that makes you vulnerable to cold weather.
  • If you have kids in school, see the PPS Inclement Weather Information page and sign up for text alerts about weather-related delays and closures.
  • If you use public transportation, check out Trimet's Winter Weather Tips for information and alert signup.
  • Also check out Oregon’s Winter Storms site.

If you want to know more:
  • Here is FEMA's comprehensive and easy to read PDF on Winter Storms.
  • Here is CDC's info on preparing your home & car for a Winter Storm.
  • Here is the Humane Society's information on keeping your pets safe.
  • Here is the Red Cross Winter Storm Safety page,
  • Here is the Ready.gov - Winter Weather site.

And a couple of reminders:
  • We are responsible for clearing our public sidewalks.
  • Clear snow from sidewalks before it becomes ice.
  • Use salt sparingly on cleared walks.  It is of little value on top of thick ice.
  • Watch out for "re-freeze" ice.  It is the most treacherous and hard to see.
